Todd Dobrin For New York City - 47th District Councilman   Todd Dobrin for New York City Councilman of the 47th District

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Todd Dobrin and I have officially entered the race for New York City Councilman of the 47th district. (View map Of 47th District PDF)

I am the fourth generation to live in our community, a working man and community activist. Let me share my background with you. I was born, raised and educated in our great community. I attended P.S. 216, J.H.S. 303 and Abraham Lincoln High School, a member of both the Varsity Wrestling and Football teams. As a New York City Licensed Master Electrician a member of the I.B.E.W. (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #3), I earned an Associates degree in Electrical Construction at SUNY Alfred, attended Kingsborough Community College and earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Economics at SUNY Oneonta.

While living and working in NYC I have a vision to make our community an even greater place to live and raise a family. My family history in our community dates back eighty one years to 1926. My Great-Grandfather lived at 2846 West 36th Street. My Grandfather, a member of the Knights of Pythias met with his brethren at the Shore theater on Surf Avenue in Coney Island and my father worked at the Playland arcade in the 1960’s. My family established the foundation for my involvement in the community and I am continuing in that tradition.

Currently I am an active member of Community Board #13 and a brief summary of my accomplishments and benefits to the community follow:

Have been a member of:

  • Housing, Zoning & Land Use Committee
  • Parks, Beach & Cultural Affairs Committee
  • Education & Library Committee
  • Youth Services Committee
  • Health, Aging & Social Services Committee

Community Activist:

  • Organized a blood drive at Coney Island Hospital that produced more than 100 pints of blood.
  • As Chairman of Friends of The Boardwalk, initiated boardwalk and floatable surveys (pollution evaluations).
  • Initiated beach clean-ups with the help of Lincoln High Schools Key Club.
  • Helped create more than $30,000 in lifeguard scholarships in an attempt to keep our beaches open all season long.
  • Organized A.C.E.S., an Asthma Chronic Bronchitis Emphysema support group.

As a member of the Seventh District Association, I am a part of programs which donate more than $400,000 annually to children charities some of which help:

  • Children with diabetes
  • Developmentally challenged children

My ongoing dedication clearly demonstrates my heartfelt commitment to the future of our great community. Through my many years of volunteer service I came to the realization that I can be more effective as Councilman. I will devote time, energy and passion to make our community a better place to live.
